SPRINGHILL DADS v MAPLES SPORT
By Scoop

This should prove interesting! No keeper, Les is still crocked, Robbie is baby sitting, even Mal is refusing says he banged his knee in the game against Maples Sport, last time - and, "it's a bit delicate!" - wimp. Jim has got some particularly virulent scurge and is being kept in isolation. Dave Hedges and Andy Simpson - No! John Lynch's gout is still playing him up! - We're down below the bare bones. Jon Elms is coming out of retirement, though and Dave Smith is making a welcome return.

SPRINGHILL DADS
Tony Pascoe
Nipper - Darren - Daniel Pascoe
Jason Furness - Brian Medway - Mark Kingsbury
Dave Smith - Chris Kingsbury
Rob Frisby

No Jon Elms - must have got wind of the dodgey side the Dads were having to put out and Tim posted an eleventh hour email with apologies from his Mum! No guest keeper, despite all those pleading phone calls - Luckily Rob turned up and Daniel and his mate were persuaded to pull on the Primrose & Cerise jerseys. Mark managed to get hold of a mate who was just clearing customs at Southampton International Airport and would be along directly.

A really strange looking formation gegan the first half and very soon Tony got his first touch after Dads lost possession. As if to emphasise the scale of the hurdle the Dads were presented with Tony then went on to bounce the ball off the back of a Maples forward and was relieved to see it rebound passed his post for a goal kick!
Dave Smith  made a fine interception only to loose possession and then Maples broke through Tony brought off a brilliant point-blank save.
About this time our international guest player, Stacy, turned up and was quickly into the action. Chris was having a good game and played a 1 - 2 with Dave Smith whose shot was comfortably saved by the keeper.
Following some good Dads play Maples conceded the corner but Maples broke when play broke down. Brian was chasing back like a gazell and forced the ball out for a corner. The ball was fired over and, in a ping-pong goal mouth, Tony managed to block and parry twice but was unable to prevent Brian supplying the cou-de-gras at the far post. 0 - 1.

From the kick off Dave went on a jinxing run and put Chris through but was sad to see his pile-driver draw a great save from the keeper. Some great pressure now from the Dads; Darren, Stacy, Chris and Rob had the Maples stretched all ways but just couldn't get that killer shot off. That nippy right winger broke and crossed for the forward unmarked on the far post the fire home. 0 - 2.

Right from the kick off Maples had the ball in the net again but it was ruled out for a foul on poor little Rob! Maples lined up a four man wall and Stacy stepped up to take the free kick. He got power and curl on it but not quite enough - it dipped just over the bar.

Brian took a turn in goal now and Tony came out to have a go. Nipper won the ball on the right and played it through for Rob who cut inside and his narrow angled drive grazed the far post. Some loose play and the winger with time and space on the corner of the goal area spotted Brian off his line tried a lob - Robbie would have been proud of him 0 - 3.

HALF TIME
DADS 0 - 4 MAPLES

The Dads were getting some good possession but because they were chasing the game they were always battling against a full defence with a side containing a couple of nippers and kept getting caught on the break.

The second half carried on where the first finished some comatose defending gave Maples another to add to their tally. Stacy was having fun even if the Dads weren't jinxing and dancing around with the ball - I even think there might have been the odd nutmeg. I was looking for the soccer am cameras its bound to be on "Show-Boating" this week!.

Rob laid a great chance on for Dave but his goal-bound shot was deflected over. From the clearance Brian did some good covering back to allow Martin, taking his turn, to pick-up. A goal clearance and a Maples forward caught  Martin off his line - oh no! Dave Smith out to Tony who cut in but his shot was saved. The Dads continued with Tony breaking down the wing and passed to Rob who beat the defender and crossed. Dave volleyed it and the keeper couldn't hold on and spilled the ball but cleared before Rob could get onto it.

Martin came out and Chris had a go in goal, now. Oops! another from no-where over the top into the back of the net - getting a bit boring now. Jason - who, is he playing? - funny, he's looking a funny colour. He said after that he's been working very hard and is a little tired. Anyway, Jason took a throw in to Martin who fed Rob, beat the defender and crossed. Martin's shot was blocked. Jason is looking bright green, now! The Dads have given up now, apart from the guests who aren't used to getting beaten and an odd one or two might have flown in! Daniel did make a fabulous goal line clearance with Chris up on the half way line!

Rob had a great chance from the edge of the box and, with Chris free on the far side, went for a shot which just scraped the paint. Stacy had a shot spilled and Dave was taken out and smashed into the fence by a charitable defender - a good time to call time. Actually ninety minutes ago would have been better.
